HELLO!
I'm Melanie Lawler, an independent medical writer with a PhD in microbiology and more than 20 years of scientific and medical writing experience.

Key Capabilities
I help pharmaceutical and medical communications teams turn scientific and clinical insights into clear, accurate, and engaging content for diverse audiences. I bring a strong science background and the ability to get up to speed quickly across multiple therapeutic areas. I have extensive experience navigating the medical-legal-regulatory review process and understand that tight deadlines are often the norm.
Collaboration is essential to success. I partner closely with clients as a reliable extension of the team to deliver high-quality, scientifically accurate materials on time. With experience supporting continuing medical education companies, medical communications agencies, and pharmaceutical company teams, I understand the different educational needs of healthcare providers and internal team members. Together, we can create content that educates, engages, and makes an impact.
About Me
My journey with medicine and microbiology began during a summer internship in a military hospital laboratory in Okinawa, Japan. From there, I went on to earn a BS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a PhD in Microbiology from Indiana University. My PhD thesis explored the functional and structural domains of the Caulobacter crescentus polar development protein PodJ.
Out of the office, I enjoy exploring national parks with my family and finding new coffee shops.
